Specializing in German to English, I own and manage Sarah Appleby Translation.
Why German? A great teacher inspired a lasting love of the language which I then went on to study at university, spending extended periods of time in the country.
My background is in information services (libraries and archives), which honed my research and customer service skills. I subsequently joined Financial Times Interactive Data in an editing role.
After completing a postgraduate diploma in translation in my spare time, I worked for a premium translation company in London for several years. There I gained technical knowledge in fields such as in-car navigation and audio systems, luxury goods, real estate, and software. I then spent time in Berlin and Andalucía before setting up my own business in 2006.
As well as travelling regularly to Germany to keep my language skills up-to-date, I have worked as a visiting tutor at the University of Sheffield. During the 2014/15 and 2015/16 academic years, I taught a weekly Applied Languages class on the Master's in Translation Studies there.
